Working with the Tree Library
The Tree Library is your toolbox to define the new 3D plant geometries introduced in ENVI-met. It supports you with data management, plant generation and modification and directly integrates into the new ENVI-met database system. The parameters for editing trees are described below.
Leaf Area Density [m² / m³]=== (LAD)
The LAD describes the amount of leaf surface area in a given volume of air, usually measured in square meters of leaf area per cubic meter of space (m²/m³)===. Higher LAD values indicate denser foliage, which influences shading, wind flow, and evaporation in a microclimate. * Note for Simple Plants: Regardless of height, each simple plant is made up of 10 sections in which the LAD can be changed. This ensures that you can define the plant as close as possible.
Leaf Area Index [m² / m²](LAI)
The LAI represents the total leaf surface area per unit of ground area (m² of leaves per m² of ground)===. It indicates how much vegetation covers a surface, affecting shading, evapotranspiration, and overall microclimate conditions.
Tree envelope height [m]
Height of the rotation plant
Tree envelope width [m]
Width of the rotation plant
Root zone depth [m]
Defines how deep the roots reach into the soil profile
Root zone width [m]
Width of the root zone
CO2 Fixation type
A tag that refers to the photosynthetic pathway a plant uses to absorb and process carbon dioxide. The fixation type is either C3 or C4.
Leaf Type
A tag that defined is the plant is decidous or coniferous
Foliage Shortwave Albedo [0 - 1]
Defines the leafs' Albedo
Foliage Shortwave Transmittance [0 - 1]
Defines the fraction of incoming shortwave radiation being transmitted through the leafs
Emissivity of Leaves [0 - 1]
Defines how much absorbed radiation the leafs emit compared to a black body
Isoprene Capacity
Defines the inherent ability of plants to produce and release isoprene. Isoprene production is increased under moderate hat stress as a protective response to stabilize cell membranes.
Young's Modulus E [GPa]
It is the tree's material property that describes its resistance to deformation under a tensile or compressive force - given in GPa.
Modulus of Rupture [MPa]
Describes the maximum stress the tree can withstand in bending before breaking or rupturing.
Root Area Density [m² / m³](RAD)
The RAD describes the amount of root surface area in a given volume of soil, usually measured in square meters of root area per cubic meter of space (m²/m³)===.
Internode distance [m]
Defines how far the nodes in an L-Tree are placed apart. With decreasing distance, more leafs will be created.
